Alcohol detox

Last Christmas my husband’s friends took advantage of the occasion, they spent a lot of time drinking beers and liquors. Now, one of them is undergoing alcohol detox because of excessive drinking.

What’s an alcohol detox?  It is the removal of chemicals that are left behind by years and years of drinking liquor. The goal of alcohol detox is to lower the amount of solutes that are deposited in your body.  To help flush the remaining solutes in the body this can be done by:

Drinking more water – By drinking a lot of water, you will be able to urinate frequently. It is like you’re washing your internal organs with water.  This is one of the most effective ways to get rid of the remaining solutes inside your body for one simple reason: it is all natural.

Sweating it out – In order to get rid of the wastes that are deposited inside your body, you need to produce sweat. This is why it pays to do a lot of exercise routines that will really make you sweat a lot. You may also consider going to saunas and having hot baths as an alternative.

A symbol of prosperity and fertility

Granada Fruit

Above is Pomegranate or locally known as the Granada fruit, a popular plant during Christmas. The plant is valued for its fruits, medicinal properties and as an ornamental or garden plant. In Asian countries, it is used as a material for bonsai.

The plant’s medicinal properties are sourced from a lot of its parts. For instance, the rind of its fruit, as well as its bark, are used as a traditional remedy against diarrhea, dysentery and intestinal parasites.  The fruit is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), potassium and polyphenols, such as tannins, flavonoids, and a good source of dietary fiber.

Since the fruit contains so many seeds, the Pomegranate symbolizes  prosperity and fertility. Thus it plays a pivotal role in some cultures during Christmas and the New Year.

The day after Christmas

A day after Christmas I saw my daughter counting the money she received from her ninong, ninang and other relatives. I didn’t ask her what she’s gonna do with her money because I know even before Christmas day she’s already eyeing on Vans shoes and on kelty backpacks at RockyMountainTrail.com. Actually she has several items on her wish list but those are the two major things that she really liked.

Anyway, one thing I didn’t forget to tell my daughter is to set aside the tenth of her money before spending all of them. I always tell my kids that every blessings we receive and enjoy comes from God and we should not forget to give back what is due to Him. It’s a sacrifice and an act of worship at the same time. And because she understand what I mean she immediately follow. I also tell them to keep in mind and heart what the Bible says:

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.- Psalm 37:4
