It’s a joint effort

In my previous post I talked about the increasing cases of HIV in workplaces here in our country. To intensify its prevention drive the Department of Labor and employment (DOLE) urged companies to set up a comprehensive HIV/AIDS policy and program that will deal with prevention and elimination of discrimination of persons with HIV/AIDS. However, DOLE reminded employers of the Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998, where HIV testing should not be required for pre-employment screening or as a precondition for employment. Likewise campaign programs will be given in all government and private offices and in communities.

As I’ve said this problem in our society is very alarming, and efforts to solve this should not just come from DOLE or DOH. I believe the government and churches should work hand in hand in this matter, as both health and moral concerns are issues here that should be dealt with.
