AED

After we have experienced the wrath of typhoon Ondoy, one lesson that everybody especially our government officials should bear in mind is that we must be equipped and prepared at all times. So when calamity strikes like typhoon, earthquake, fire, etc. damaged to lives and properties will somehow be prevented if not eliminated.

On the rescuers side, aside from first aid kits portable medical equipments are very important. Today I read about AED or automated external defibrillator, it is used in cases of life threatening cardiac arrhythmias which lead to cardiac arrest. AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is taught in many first aid, first responder and basic life support (BLS) level CPR classes. I think it’s nice if we can have this kind of device at home, in times of emergency situations a trained household member can already perform immediate response and first aid in life threatening situations.
